All the Things… New York Jazz and More

Exploring New York City and Brooklyn jazz scene

The Superpowers @ Zebulon, Williamsburg

Yesterday I discovered an incredible american afrobeat band @ Zebulon (Whythe Av betw Metropolitan and N 3rd, Williamsburg, Brooklyn) – the Superpowers. They were just killin’ with the groove, all the syncopation, amazing arrangements and great solos.  5 horns,  2 rhythm guitars, percussion, drums, keyboards, bass – the band sounded so good that it was impossible not to dance. People know about good stuff around here – Zebulon was really packed. Since it was a free show, I really hope those guys got a lot of tips and groupies later on 😀 they were just doing such an amazing job.
But what was really extreme for the whole concert was the actual volume – when I walked into the room, my ears hurt so I had to wear plugs otherwise it would have been impossible to stay and listen. I have no idea how people survived without wearing plugs there. Anyway, it’s their monthly gig @ Zebulon, really recommended!
