What have I learned riding the MTA New York City Transit

What have I learned riding the MTA NYC transit 😀 Subway.

1 -To dress in layers

2 – To stay away from local trains

3 – To stay away from kids

4 –  To be prepared to meet my next best friend. Or a long lost friend. Or – actually once I met the same friend even twice – in different trains and different stations – randomly. Yeah, subway is great for meeting people.

5 – To carry some change. One can spot something spectacular any moment. And I’ve started to get used to the whole tipping culture.

6 – To carry a book. Somehow the trains come so much faster when I have something else to do…

7 – Not to try to sneak in with somebody else’s MetroCard. It’s not worth it (they’re going to fine you and all that)

Anyway, I’m figuring just riding the subway all day one would see A LOT of authentic New York. Anything is possible and anything can happen.

Recently they have been really cheap with the service, though.

Heard the midnight session @ Spike Hill again, on the way home after work. Spike Hill is actually a great music venue these days, I guess – could be even better if they actually paid the musicians. But audience was really attentive to the music this time except for some people sitting at the bar. They sounded great – Aki Nishiguchi (tenor), Pascal Niggenkemper (bass). Don’t know who played the drums… And Uri Gurvich (alto) sat in for a tune.

Üleval linnas, seal kus jazzi iidne kodu – Harlemis 😉  Lenox @ 125 St. With Lee Pearson’s group. Mina ja Hanna-Liina Võsa olime ka kohal ja elasime kaasa. Ja maksime suht jamade jookide eest sealjuures. Aga Peedu on nii tubli! Päris äge. Igatahes – seda asja lindistati. Kusagil peaks see varsti saada olema! Ma miskipärast arvan, et Peedu Kass võiks olla siis järgmine eestlasest jazzmuusik, kes New Yorgis mängimas käib, kui tahab. Jee xD
