Olla eestlane on nii eriline ja haruldane

Minu arvamus Vabas Eesti Sõnas

Mind on viimasel ajal tabanud kerge patriotismilaine.

Praekartuli isu on. Isegi Viljandi järele on (hästi)  kerge igatsus.

Winter's Eve @ Lincoln Center: Ben Allison Group

Went all the way up there, initially just to hear Ben Allison. I would have made it on time actually, but just couldn’t find the venue. I just remembered wrong and was looking for it from between 63rd and 64th St (was actually a block up from there). And NOONE knew where 2 Lincoln Plaza was, not to mention American Folk Art Museum’s Eva and Morris Feld Gallery which was the actual location for the concert. But with a little help from a friend I finally found it, just to hear the last tune of the set :D. Sounded good.

Ben Allison Group plays Neil Young

But the 10th Annual Winter’s Eve @ Lincoln Center was spectacular by itself – 6-7 blocks of outdoor food, music, shopping and holiday celebration around the Lincoln Center neighborhood.. Heard so many great bands playing on the streets – a steel pan trio with a cool minimalist vibe and on the main stage the actual afrobeat band from the very recent Broadway musical FELA! and a bunch more that I didn’t rememeber. And I also casually spotted Mike Bloomberg himself, giving a speech. But the highlight of the evening was all that food sampling. First I got sick eating a lot of cake and gelato and free hot chocolate, then tried everything else. They really had great food there. And I actually heard some of the 2nd set of Ben Allison Group, so it was all good anyway.

The street surprise - Ice sculptures

On the way home stopped by from Bar 4  in Brooklyn (444 7th Ave). Wasn’t that crazy about the band. But Bar 4 is cool. It’s actually one of the closest bars for me right now. And they even carry All About Jazz NY newspaper. The December number had just arrived, I got the first one from the pack 😀
