All the Things… New York Jazz and More

Exploring New York City and Brooklyn jazz scene

A way to discover some “random” music

I was recommended this great site for discovering (mostly indie) music from all over the world (mostly US though). The idea is simple – people can put their music up there for curious listeners to discover. So musicians looking for self promotion should get their profile up. I think the idea of site is awesome. There should be some more happening jazz there, though. Or just some more interesting stuff. I get a little bored browsing all those singer-songwriters. I did find “Wonderwall” the Oasis song cover by Brad Mehldau trio, though, so there is hope 😀

My username: Innuke. Feel free to fill me as the one who recommended the site 😀

  1. the thing is, ’em hipsters ain’t never dig jazz on account of, you know, you actually need a soul for that (and don’t you find it funny how all those “independents” have a remarkably similar visual marketing m.o., regardless of musical genre?). the late, great Lester Bowie once stated that (i’m loosely paraphrasing here) while jazz was a musics (yes, plural) punctuated by “solo-segmentation” (and unfortunately too often marred by narcissus-pseudo-virtuoso insecurities), it could never truly aspire to be the music of “independents” given the fact that the spirit of a jazz musician is, if you think about it, communal and all encompassing, thus making jazz a music not of self-sufficiency nor self-resourcefulness, but actually of great necessity and curiosity (he also went on to emphasize perceived differences between ‘independence’ and ‘liberation’, if i recall correctly).
then again the context of the word differs here, doesn’t it?
anyways, i’m ranting and ruining your blog so… peace out to you Ines, and see you at meet-up soon. one hopes!
