Douglas Bradford Group @ Tea Lounge

This time with Dan Loomis on bass, Nick Anderson on drums, John Beaty on alto and Douglas with a new (Klein) guitar and some new tunes. New tunes on myspace too, i like it :D. I think some of the compositions are killing. And really cool how John Beaty on alto can take the music even further. Great passionate saxophone playing. Some people in the audience wanted to buy a CD. I would like one too, actually :D. Even though I think they could use a really simple ballad on it as well, in between all that elaborate stuff.

That night, Tea Lounge hangover tea was pretty good too, since I was still half dead from celebrating my birthday the day before.

Douglas Bradford (guitar and compositions), John Beaty (alto sax), Greg Chudzik (bass), Nick Anderson (drums). I heard the same thing in June  @ Solo Kitchen Bar – I really like that band and the music. And besides all I think the guitar player has a cute haircut 😉 Nice neighborhood cafe @ Cortelyou road, Vox Pop – played some great background music there.

The hardest days to find concerts to go to for free are Saturdays. But seems like Tea Lounge in Park Slope was a great choice that night. Liked the band a lot – John Beaty – alto, Daniel Foose- bass, James Windsor-Wells- drums, Douglas Bradford- guitar, special guest – Joe Albano on soprano sax. Real nice compositions 🙂

Went to Solo Kitchen Bar again (Flatbush, Brooklyn, Cortelyou Rd stop from the Q-train) they have great free shows on Sundays. This time I checked out the first one (starting 6:30) as well, because a friend was playing – and it was a great band, really – Douglas Bradford Group featuring John Beaty on alto, Greg Chudzik on bass, Nick Anderson on drums, Douglas Bradford on guitar and  compositions. I really enjoyed it! But seriously, why is the only audience in all these concerts other musicians??? Quoting a guy called Alabaster here: The only good thing about the times we’re living in is dentistry.

But actually a lot more people showed up for Ben Monder trio concert later on (Ben Street was on bass, Mark Ferber on drums)  finally the place was quite packed, with no free seats. It was a great concert with a really appreciative audience (musicians again?). They played some standards such as What’s New, I’ll Remember April, original compositions and Hey Jude, the Beatles song. Didn’t hear everything because I actually went out to smoke something in between. Some of the things the drummer did made it feel like surf jazz at times – great tripping music :D.

Juhuslikud leiud: only in New York (Brooklyn)

Kõndisin kodu lähedal tänaval ja nägin aknakaunistust - paistab, et keegi on Coleman Hawkinsi fänn

Ilm läks jälle kehvaks ja vihmaseks – täiesti lambist, väga kummaline, aga sellised muutused olevat NYle väga iseloomulikud.  Täna on mul vaba päev, hommikupoolikul käisin joogatunnis, pärastpoole plaanis  kontserdile minna.Praegu olen mahlabaaris (10 sekundit kodust) ja joon mahla (greibi-ananassi-peedi-porgandi-laimi-apelsini).

On my way home ran into a place called Oulu (North 4th St/Bedford Av) - guys were burnin' on some standards there. Finally, the only audience was me.

Paar huvitavat juhust on olnud: üks õhtu mööda Bedford Av koju tulles, paar tänavavahet enne kodu kuulsin ilusaid jazzi-sounde, Line 6 delay-looperi soundiga kitarri, kui täpsem olla, mängimas I Hear A Rhapsody‘t. Läksin vaatama, kust see tuleb – leidsin uue klubi-baari nimega Oulu. Kutid mängisid standardeid – orel, kitarr, trummid ja tenorsaks (Brad Whiteley, Douglas Bradford, Luke, Michael Eaton). Küte oli! 😀 Mängisid Stella‘t, Here’s That Rainy Day‘d (minu soovilugu) , All or Nothing at All, All the things You Are (7 peale) , 26-2,  viimaseks looks oli väga inspireeritud versioon Inner Urge’ist.

One day coming home late at night I found a guitar amp in front of my house, on the street curb. I took it in and - surprise-surprise - it actually works, even has a cord attached. And not a bad amp at all, I reckon.

Hand made in USA on peale kirjutatud. Päris hästi kõlab kah. Tore ju 😀

Eile nägin tööl olles paari eestlast –  olid purjus ja ropendasid omavahel kõva häälega… Oeh, ei tekitanud koduigatsust!
