Douglas Bradford Group @ Tea Lounge

This time with Dan Loomis on bass, Nick Anderson on drums, John Beaty on alto and Douglas with a new (Klein) guitar and some new tunes. New tunes on myspace too, i like it :D. I think some of the compositions are killing. And really cool how John Beaty on alto can take the music even further. Great passionate saxophone playing. Some people in the audience wanted to buy a CD. I would like one too, actually :D. Even though I think they could use a really simple ballad on it as well, in between all that elaborate stuff.

That night, Tea Lounge hangover tea was pretty good too, since I was still half dead from celebrating my birthday the day before.

Jason Lindner's Now vs Now album release party @ Drom

Now vs Now @ Drom

One of my favorite bands… 😀 Jason Lindner (keys), Panagiotis Andreou (bass, vocals) and Mark Guiliana (drums). I was so excited about the album release party – Now vs Now  with guests such as Avishai Cohen (trumpet), Anat Cohen (tenor), John Beaty (alto),  Jeff Taylor (vocals). And a string quartet.

There is something really special about this band – they actually sound hip in a really optimistic, energetic, fresh way – somehow giving a feeling that the good times are coming now…

Atmosphere @ the release was great. Lots of people, digging on the music. I wasn’t that much into the opening act though – Brazz Tree. But Now vs Now show was great – I’m loving the music and the band and the concept. The videoscreen and all those guest artists were amazing. But i’ve gotten a little spoiled hearing them at those small intimate places like Rose and Rockwood – I think there the live energy can get to be even more up.

As one of those Facebook people who actually reads the event listings (sometimes), I noticed that First 3 people to name the rapper on our CD get a free one. Whisper it to the person at the merch table. Well I was definitely the first one to go for that. Answer, of course, being Baba Israel 😉

Now I’m listening to the CD – has Meshell Ndegeocello and Kurt Rosenwinkel on it, among others! I’m loving the rapper as well… 😀

Douglas Bradford (guitar and compositions), John Beaty (alto sax), Greg Chudzik (bass), Nick Anderson (drums). I heard the same thing in June  @ Solo Kitchen Bar – I really like that band and the music. And besides all I think the guitar player has a cute haircut 😉 Nice neighborhood cafe @ Cortelyou road, Vox Pop – played some great background music there.

Now vs Now @ Rockwood Music Hall

I’m so glad I made it to this one and even invited some people :). Jason Lindner (keys), Panagiotis Andreou (bass, vocals), Mark Guiliana (drums) and special guest John Beaty on alto. That was so killin’! Panagiotis is such a great find in the scene, with his singing and bass playing… 😀 There was a crowd of French guys in the audience, seemed to be fans – so the live vibe was amazing. Besides everything, Meshell Ndegeocello produced their record. Can definitely hear some influence. It’s going to be out in October. I love that stuff. They’re going to do 3 sets at the Zinc Bar tonight. I guess I should go 😉

Well yeah. This kind of things is why I’m so in love with New York.

The hardest days to find concerts to go to for free are Saturdays. But seems like Tea Lounge in Park Slope was a great choice that night. Liked the band a lot – John Beaty – alto, Daniel Foose- bass, James Windsor-Wells- drums, Douglas Bradford- guitar, special guest – Joe Albano on soprano sax. Real nice compositions 🙂
