BMI/Jazz Composers Workshop Annual Concert @ Christ & St. Stephen’s Church

DSCN0518Last night I checked out the annual BMI/Jazz Composers Workshop (for big band, performed by New York Jazz Orchestra) concert @ Christ & St.Stephen’s Church (W 69th St), which featured some of last season’s best work. It was nothing out of this world as I was hoping it to be. But the most interesting piece that was nominated, in my opinion also, Sara Jacovino’s Mental Block, won – the Charlie Parker Composition Competition. One of the judges couldn’t make it so they just took Rufus Reid from the audience to fill in.
As composers go, I think there are some really good ones in Estonia. I got reassured on that.
